Pixel Facade

A facade designed to be built by a robot

PIFA is a joint project by VektorNode, ERNE Holzbau AG, and Carl Meier Sohn AG. The ventilated facade is made of metal pixels, each bent individually by a robot using files generated from the design model. Custom 3D-printed parts protect and position the pixels during transport and installation.

Robotic Bending

Each metal pixel was bent individually by an industrial robot. ERNE Holzbau AG ran the robotic bending of the steel sheets. The instructions for every pixel - position, angle, and bend - came directly from the design model and went straight to the machine.
